Opera has announced major updates on Web 3 capabilities and a built-in crypto wallet for its mobile and computer users. Opera blockchain browser services are now available to the entire EU as well as to Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Switzerland.
Through a press release on March 30, 2020, Opera (NASDAQ: OPRA) announced that it has introduced Web 3 capabilities to its mobile and computer users. Besides, the Opera blockchain browser will offer a built-in crypto wallet to its Web 3 mobile and computer users. According to the press release, the Norwegian company will add features to the Web 3 blockchain browser, in order to enhance user capabilities.
The company boast of a huge global market of about 360 million active users. However, the new crypto wallet and opera blockchain capability will only be available to the U.S., Scandinavia, EU, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and also in Mexico. After the roll out into these markets, the company will be looking to venture into other global markets.
According to the statement, Opera users will now be in a position to access the cloudless decentralized web of the future via the IPFS protocol support. Besides, the users will be able to send and receive their crypto assets in an easier way, only by registering for a crypto wallet address in a similar way as .com or .org domains work.
After introducing the first blockchain browser back in December 2018, Opera has continually upgraded the services to compete with crypto exchanges that have dominated the crypto market. Along the way, Opera has introduced easy crypto purchases and also in-built crypto wallet. Although initially available for the U.S. and Scandinavia, Opera has been expanding the services to more regions to reach out to its millions of users.

In order to compete with other crypto service providers, Opera has partnered with Wyre, a U.S. crypto brokerage firm. In addition, Opera has partnered with Visa and also Mastercard to allow users to purchase crypto assets directly with their cards. The company has also partnered with Unstoppable Domains, which is a blockchain naming system that is built on Ethereum.
Opera has been making a lot of investment to venture into the blockchain and crypto market that shows a lot of untapped potentials. The Head of Crypto at Opera Browser Charles Hamel stated:
“Being able to acquire cryptocurrencies without having to go through an exchange, directly from the wallet makes the process easy for the users. Expanding these features to more regions is key to driving blockchain adoption. We are excited to expand our collaboration with Wyre and deliver best-in-class crypto buy experience to even more countries.”
As a result of these moves, Opera was ranked the number one app in the social and communication apps category in Germany. This is a report according to the State of Mobile 2020 that was presented by AppAnnie.
