Google Cloud will be one of the 21 block producers on the EOS blockchain and will allow its open-source developer community to build applications on EOS.
In a major development, Google Cloud has joined hands with Block.one to become part of the EOS blockchain community. On Tuesday, October 6, Block.one – the developer of EOSIO blockchain protocol – said that Google Cloud has shown interest in becoming the block producer for the EOS network.
EOSIO is a semi-decentralized blockchain protocol with a network of only 21 block producers. Unlike other public blockchain networks that have no restrictions on the number of nodes, EOS has 21 nodes selected by the EOS holders. Some of the largest block producers on EOS are data centers in the EOS community. Others are some popular crypto exchanges like Huobi, Binance, and OKEx. Now joining the list is Google Cloud.
With its latest partnership with Block.one, Google Cloud will allow its open-source developer community to build applications on EOS. This is also a big boost for EOS considering Google is the only tech giant to be an EOS block producer. Google Cloud also stated that it will provide its highly provisioned, low-latency optic fiber network to Block.one. Speaking of this development, Block.one CTO Dan Larimer said:
“Through secure oracles, inter-chain transaction reporting, key management, and high-integrity full-node validation, Google Cloud’s confidential computing infrastructure will enhance the security, scalability, and decentralization of blockchain technology.”
Besides, Block.one said that Google‘s participation is a “marks a milestone for the network”. It further added that the partnership “underscores the importance of blockchain to the future of business, government, and society”.
Google Cloud’s Role as EOS Block Producer
In the press release, Block.one noted that the existing EOS token holders first need to select Google Cloud as the block producer on the platform. Besides, Google Cloud will also publish a micro-website to highlight its participation. Block.one CEO Brendan Blumer said:
“With the majority of global public blockchain activity, EOS is a powerful solution for anyone looking to leverage the decentralized ecosystem with ease. The Google Cloud team understands the thriving EOS community and the highly performant EOSIO technology on which it builds create the best entry point into the blockchain industry. We welcome Google Cloud to the EOS community and are excited for their contributions to the EOS network.”
This development will also hold major significance in bridging the gap between cloud computing and blockchain solutions. It will also encourage tech players to curate such interesting solutions for the market.
