During an interview with comedian Joe Rogan, Tesla CEO Elon Musk commented on a number of his recent sentiments, including his opinion about ongoing coronavirus ‘shelter in place’ policy.
Elon Musk claims that how the United States reacts to the Covid-19 pandemic can be viewed more as a trial for future deadly viruses. He said during an interview with Joe Rogan that was posted on Youtube.
“At some point there probably will be a pandemic with a high mortality rate, something that’s killing a lot of 20 year olds, let’s say. This is kind of like a practice run for something that might in the future have a really high mortality rate.” Musk said.
He has been very vocal on Twitter, bashing the government on how it has been dealing with the pandemic. Especially with the shelter in place policy that has been put in place in states that have been hit hard by the pandemic.
The number of infected people in the U.S. according to the CDC at the time of reporting stands at 1.29 million with 25,969 new cases confirmed. With the virus having killed more than 76,000 victims, and +1,926 new deaths cases, reopening the country safely might take longer than anticipated. Elon Musk: How COVID-19 Pandemic Influences the Society
According to him, the pandemic will be a good reminder to people to observe hygiene at a personal level. Whereby people will be washing their hands regularly and also using their masks in public, which will prevent other viruses from erupting and spreading.
Musk also commented on the issue with more people joining finance and law instead of focusing on innovations. According to him, in the United States, there is an over-allocation of talent in finance and law.
He said that the manufacturing careers shifted from being highly valued skills to one that is looked down upon. Giving an example of a car making job as an honest day’s living. During his previous interview with Rogan, Musk agreed that he has had a rough time being innovative, even in his childhood.
Having founded a number of companies like PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: PYPL), which he later sold, SpaceX and Tesla that is taking the electric vehicle industry by storm, Musk remains a monument figure in the tech industry.
Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) stock closed yesterday with a slight drop, however, recovered the loss in the pre-market after gaining 1.51% to trade at $791.85. However, the business might be affected in the coming quarters if the pandemic persists and halts Tesla’s supply chain and assembly operation.
